Iriki route names: oases, rock formations and local stops
Understand Laajirmia, the “Moroccan Colorado”, Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi and Oum Laâlag before comparing an Iriki or Chigaga itinerary.
Local names need route context
An Iriki itinerary may name rock formations, an oasis, a settlement and a dune area in the same paragraph. These are different kinds of stops. Ask which involve walking or visiting and which simply describe the landscape passed along the way.
Spelling varies in transliteration. A similar name is not enough to prove that two operators mean the same place. Request a route description and the guide’s confirmation instead of navigating remote tracks by a name found online.
The “Moroccan Colorado”
“Moroccan Colorado” is a descriptive nickname used in local Iriki itineraries for rocky formations near Laajirmia. It is not a sufficiently precise address by itself. Confirm the stop with your guide and do not assume other sites carrying the same nickname are the same place.
Ask whether the visit is a viewpoint, a short walk or a longer stop. The landscape name alone does not establish the duration or exact walking route.
Laajirmia
Laajirmia appears in published local route descriptions alongside the rocky formations on the Foum Zguid–Iriki approach. It may also be written Laarjimia or Laajirmiya. In a booking request, ask what is planned there rather than treating the spelling as an activity.
If photography or a walk is a priority, specify this before departure. A brief vehicle stop is not the same as a guided exploration.
Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi
Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi, also written Zaouit Sidi Abdenabi in itineraries, is a named settlement stop in local Iriki programmes. A mention of village life does not guarantee a private home visit or meeting with a particular family.
Let the guide arrange any welcomed visit, ask before taking portraits and respect spaces that are not open to visitors. The trip should not depend on an encounter that residents have not agreed to.
Oum Laâlag
Oum Laâlag is the oasis name used in our three-day Chigaga route description. Confirm whether the stop is planned for your dates and how it fits with the rest of the crossing. This guide does not establish a permanent water supply or guarantee access to any particular spring.
Treat water, vegetation and cultivated spaces with care. Follow the guide’s current access advice and take all litter away.
