This is the shortest road to a real night in the great erg. From Foum Zguid, a private 4x4 with your driver-guide crosses the white expanse of Lac Iriki, the red rocks of the Colorado marocain and the fossil plateau — three landscapes in an hour — before the first dunes of Chegaga rise ahead.
The evening is the reason people come: a camel ride to a crest for sunset, tagine and sand-baked bread by the fire, music if the mood takes it, and a night in a wool nomad tent or under a sky with no light pollution for sixty kilometres. After sunrise and breakfast you return by another track, home before lunch.

Itinerary
Day 1 · 14:00 — Departure from Foum Zguid
Meet in the village for a welcome tea, then onto the track through the stony plateau and acacias towards the white plain of Lac Iriki.
Day 1 · 16:00 — Colorado marocain and fossil plateau
Stop at the red rock formations of Jbel Madouar and the fossil plateau. Three terrains in an hour, then the first sand.
Day 1 · 17:30 — Arrival at Erg Chegaga
Settle into the bivouac at the foot of the dunes. Camel ride to a ridge for the sunset.
Day 1 · 20:00 — Dinner and night
Tagine, sand-baked bread and mint tea around the fire, music if you like it. Sleep in the tent or under the stars.
Day 2 · 07:00 — Sunrise and breakfast
A gentle wake-up half an hour before sunrise, then breakfast at camp.
Day 2 · 11:30 — Return to Foum Zguid
Back by a different track with a photo stop at the lake viewpoint; arrival by late morning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why leave from Foum Zguid rather than M’hamid?
It is the shortest track (2.5 hours instead of 3.5–4), it crosses Lac Iriki and the Colorado marocain on the way, and it is the most direct approach from Marrakech, Agadir or Ouarzazate.
Does €140 really include everything?
The price covers the private 4x4, the guide, the bivouac night, dinner, breakfast and the camel ride. Only lunches and extra drinks are on top — nothing else is added on site.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. The track is smooth and the stages short; families with children from about four regularly join us. Child seats and a gentler pace on request.
Where exactly do we sleep?
In our bivouac at the base of the Chegaga dunes: wool nomad tents with real beds and blankets, shared toilets. A luxury tent with private bathroom is available as a paid upgrade.
When does it run?
September to early June. October–November and February–April are ideal (22–28 °C by day); December–February nights are cold, bring a fleece. In July–August we replace the dune night with an early-morning run to Lac Iriki.
