No night to spare? This is the gentlest way to see the great erg: a full day in a private 4x4 that leaves Foum Zguid at eight, crosses Lac Iriki while the light is still soft, and puts you on the Chegaga dunes by half past ten.
Lunch is cooked at the foot of the sand, the sandboards come out, and after one last climb you return north by the eastern track to reach the village exactly as the sun goes down.

A quick tea and briefing, then onto the track.
10:30 — The dunes
Arrival at Erg Chegaga after crossing Lac Iriki.
13:00 — Nomad lunch
Lunch at the foot of the dunes, then rest in the shade.
15:00 — Last climb and return
One more crest, then north by the eastern track.
18:30 — Foum Zguid at sunset
Back in the village as the sun sets.

Can we leave earlier for the sunrise?
Yes — a 5:30 departure is possible on request to catch the sunrise on the dunes.
Day trip or overnight?
The day trip shows you the desert; the night at the bivouac is the full experience. If you can spare the night, take the 2-day tour.
With young children?
This is our gentlest family option: short stages, a private vehicle and child seats on request.
In summer?
Available year-round except July and August, when departures move to 6:00 and focus on Lac Iriki.
