Camel trek from Foum Zguid — 3 days at the pace of the dromedaries

Price per person, based on two travellers. Private 4x4 and guide — the rate per person drops for groups of 4–6.
Three days is enough to leave the road behind completely. You load the camels mid-morning at the oasis and walk south for four hours to the foot of Jbel Bani, where the first camp goes up and the fire is lit as the sun drops behind the ridge.
Day two takes you from stone into sand — five to six hours with long rests — to a camp set in the heart of the El Mhazil dunes, on a crest for the stars. The last morning you walk down to the white clay shore of Lac Iriki, where lunch is waiting and a 4x4 brings you back to the village in two hours.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Foum Zguid to the foot of Jbel Bani
Camels loaded mid-morning, four hours walking south with lunch under acacias, then an easy climb to the first camp at the base of the mountain. Sunset, dinner by the fire.
Day 2 — Into the dunes of Erg El Mhazil
From rock to sand: five to six hours with breaks and a long rest in the heat. Camp in the heart of the dunes, set on a crest for the night sky.
Day 3 — The shore of Lac Iriki and return
An early start in the cool morning down to the edge of the lake, the landscape turning from sand to white clay. Lunch, then 4x4 back to Foum Zguid (2 hours).

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we reach Erg Chegaga by camel?
Yes, but it takes 5–6 days one way from Foum Zguid with a 4x4 return — we organise it for groups on request.
Do I need experience?
None — neither walking nor riding. We show you how to mount and dismount on the first day.
How do we wash?
A basin of hot water behind the tents each evening; the desert routine is explained on day one.
How hard is it?
No technical difficulty: flat to gently sloping terrain, 4–6 hours a day. Expect a pleasant tiredness in the evening.
Children?
From about eight years old, yes — with shorter stages for families, and a shared camel for light children.
What do I bring?
A soft bag of 8–10 kg maximum: scarf, sunglasses, sunscreen, light walking shoes and sandals for the sand, fleece, winter hat, headtorch, water bottle. October to April; November and March are ideal (about 24 °C by day).
